Duality Unveiled

In "Duality Unveiled," I embark on a deeply personal visual journey, using self-portraiture to explore the intricate tapestry of my own identity as an Iranian woman. I navigate the complexities and contradictions that arise from the mandatory hijab, juxtaposing it with the vibrant elements of Persian culture, such as patterns, jewelry, and colors. Through this introspective lens, I seek to illuminate the intricate duality that characterizes the lives of Iranian women, where self-expression coexists with societal expectations and restrictions.

Compulsory hijab in Iran serves as a constant reminder of the dual nature of identity. It encapsulates both the desire for self-expression and the need for conformity, making it an emblem of the internal struggle that many Iranian women face daily. This project is a testament to that struggle, as I, too, grapple with my own identity and the dualities it encompasses.

Each self-portrait in "Duality Unveiled" is a canvas upon which I paint my own story and the stories of countless Iranian women. I adorn myself with Persian patterns, jewelry, and colors, transforming the traditional hijab into a vessel of self-expression. Through the use of these elements, I explore the dynamic tension between tradition and modernity, restriction and rebellion, silence and self-assertion.
